Albumen print | 34.6 x 23.3 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 850667

A photograph of the central panel and lunette of the Colonna Altarpiece, painted by Raphael (c.1504-05) for the Nunnery of Sant’Antonio da Padua, Perugia. The central panel represents the enthroned Virgin and Child with the Infant Baptist, between Saints Paul and Catherine on the left, and Saint Peter and a haloed female martyr on the right. The lunette depicts God the Father flanked by two angels, blessing and holding a globe in his left hand. According to Ruland (1876), the central panel and lunette belonged to the Neapolitan Royal Family but were removed from the Palace in 1860 and deposited in the National Gallery, London. They are currently in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (inv. no.16.30ab). Photograph not listed in Ruland (1876).
