Holy Families & Madonna and Child

Holy Families & Madonna and Child

AFTER A WORK ATTRIBUTED TO THE WORKSHOP OF RAPHAEL (URBINO 1483-ROME 1520)

St Joseph

c.1853-76

Albumen print | 32.2 x 23.1 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851042

A photograph of a fragment of a cartoon formerly in the collection of Henri Joseph François, Baron de Triqueti and now in the Musée Bonnat, Bayonne (inv. no.1705). The fragment - the authorship of which is a matter of ongoing debate - connects with the figure of St Joseph in the so-called ‘Holy Family of Francis I’, a painting attributed to Raphael and his workshop (1518) now in the Musée du Louvre, Paris (inv. no.604). A photograph of the ‘Holy Family of Francis I’ can be found at RCIN 851028. Showing the bust-length figure of a man, resting his head on his left hand and looking down to the left.
