Moses holding the tablets of the Law
c.1860-76Carbon print | 21.3 x 13.0 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851026
Ruland (1876) associated the drawing with the figure of Moses contained in a niche on the right of an engraving by Cherubino Alberti, loosely based on the so-called 'La Perla', a painting now in the Museo del Prado, Madrid (inv. no.140) generally attributed to Giulio Romano possibly after a design by Raphael. Popham reputed Ruland's statement to be inaccurate. An impression of Cherubino Alberti's engraving can be found at RCIN 851025.
Showing the standing figure of Moses, holding the tablets of the law with both hands, within an arch.
