dated 1812Etching and engraving | 50.2 x 39.2 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 850869
An engraving reproducing the composition of the so-called Madonna di Loreto, a painting by Raphael (c.1511) now in the Musée Condé, Chantilly (inv. no.68). Lettered with production details.
Many painted versions of this composition are known. Ruland (1876) thought that the original painting by Raphael either had disappeared or was the one then in the possession of Sir Kennedy Laurie, Florence (now in the Morgan Library and Museum, New York, inv. no.AZ 139). He also described this print as after a replica attributed to Giulio Romano.
Showing the Virgin holding a veil over the Christ Child, with St Joseph standing on the right.
