Holy Families & Madonna and Child

Holy Families & Madonna and Child

AFTER RAPHAEL (URBINO 1483-ROME 1520)

Compositional studies

c.1853-76

Albumen print | 14.2 x 11.5 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 850871

A photograph of a drawing by Raphael (c.1509-11) formerly in the Musée Wicar, Lille, and now in Musée des Beaux-Arts, Lille (inv. no.437).

The studies drawn at upper left on the sheet are connected with Raphael's so-called 'Madonna di Loreto' now in the Musée Condé, Chantilly (inv. no.68; see RCIN 850869 for a print reproducing this painting), those at upper and lower right with the 'Aldobrandini Madonna' (see RCIN 850881 for a photograph of this painting). A sketch apparently unrelated to any known painting by Raphael is at bottom centre.
