AFTER A WORK BY THE CIRCLE OF PIETRO PERUGINO (CITTÀ DELLA PIEVE C.1450-FONTIGNANO 1523)
Compilation of drawings
c.1853-76Albumen print | 20.0 x 23.6 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851297
A photograph of a compilation of two drawings from the collection of the Gallerie dell'Accademia, Venice, shown as they were mounted at the time this photograph was taken. The drawing of the naked Christ Child (left) belongs to the so-called 'Libretto Veneziano' (f.18r): it was formerly ascribed to Raphael and is now given to an artist from the circle of Perugino. The drawing of draped figures (right) has been previously associated with Fra Bartolommeo, Piero di Cosimo and Amico Aspertini (inv. no.596).
The photograph shows two drawings laid down together. On the right is a drawing of the full-length Christ Child, seated, with His left arm reaching for something (possibly the Virgin's hand) at His right, with a sketch of the head of a child in the upper right corner. On the right is a drawing of two draped figures, of which one is kneeling with clasped hands and the other is standing.
