Battle Scene
c.1853-76Albumen print | 23.1 x 32.1 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 852271
A photograph of a drawing by Raphael now in the Devonshire Collection, Chatsworth House (inv. no.57), probably related to The Battle of the Milvian Bridge, a fresco designed by Raphael and eventually executed by his School in the Sala di Costantino in the Vatican. The drawing has been suggested as the model for the central group of a composition engraved by Marco Dente (B. XIV, p.420, no.9). Two impressions of the engraving can be found at RCINs 852269, 852270.
