AFTER RAPHAEL (URBINO 1483-ROME 1520)

Seven men

c.1853-1876

Albumen print | 16.9 x 16.7 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 852295

A photograph of a pen and ink drawing depicting seven figures catalogued by Ruland (1876) as being then in the Royal Collection at Munich. Annotated on the verso.

In an inventory of the Königlich Bayerisches Zeichnungskabinet (1852) a drawing (inv. no. 2461 Z) is catalogued as by Raphael and recorded with the title: “Saint Paul preaching” (“Paulus predigt den Corinthern”). This drawing is no longer in the Graphische Sammlung and it was already missing in a review of completeness after the Second World War, but it is possible, although not verifiable, that this was the drawing that Ruland (1876) catalogued as being then in the Royal Collection at Munich.
