MARCANTONIO RAIMONDI (C. 1480-1534)

A seated woman

c.1510-30

Engraving | 11.2 x 7.5 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 852330

An engraving by Marcantonio Raimondi depicting a seated woman, which is often referred to as La Meditation. Bartsch catalogued this print as after a drawing by Raphael. Annotated on the verso. Trimmed within the platemark.

Some scholars have dated the drawing to the time of the Stanza di Eliodoro (c.1511-14), while others relate it to the "intimate subjects" executed by Raphael c.1512-13 (see Bibliographic References).
