Photograph of two French officers and a Zouave soldier. The French officers are sitting on small wooden stools, both wearing military uniform and holding swords. The Zouave soldier stands to the right with his right arm resting on a long rifle. He is wearing the traditional Zouave uniform of loose trousers and an open jacket. There is open land behind them. Zouave regiments from Algeria served with the French army during the Crimean War. It was the first time that they had fought outside of North Africa.
