1855-1856Salted paper print | 17.2 x 29.6 cm (image) (image) | RCIN 2500726
Photograph of the battery of the Victoria Ravine. An earth wall reinforced with sandbags extends across the breadth of the scene. Cannons are spaced at intervals and there are piles of wood and ammunition behind. A number of soldiers are moving around the battery. Sevastopol can be seen in the distance to the right.
The Victoria Ravine, also known as the Worontzoff Ravine, marked the line between the British and French forces during the Siege of Sevastopol.
