Photograph of Sir John Campbell (1807-1855) and other officers including Captain Layard (1819-1855), Major Daniell (1827-1889) and Captain Hume (1825-1891) gathered around the entrance to the cave where Sir John Campbell lived. The men are arranged in a loose line with one man sitting beside the entrance next to two canon balls and another lying to the right. There is open land behind them and a tent to the right. Sir John Campbell was a senior military figure during the Crimean War who died during the battle at the Great Redan.
