General Jones commanded the Royal Engineer forces during the Crimean War and later became the Governor of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He was severely wounded in the unsuccessful assault on the Redan on 18 June 1855. He returned to England where the Prince of Wales met him in December 1855.
