Photograph of Omar Pacha mounted on a horse facing left. He is wearing ornate military uniform and a cap and has a sword by his side. There is a tree and a building with a tiled roof directly behind him. Omar Pacha was originally an Austrian subject, born in Croatia. He converted to Islam and went to Turkey where he entered the regular army. He served with distinction in campaigns in Syria, Albania, Kurdistan and the Balkans, and commanded the Turkish forces during the Crimean War.
