Photograph of Major Burton (1827-1882) and officers of the 5th Dragoon Guards including Dr Cattell, Lieutenant Montgomery, Lieutenant Hampton, Lieutenant Ferguson, Major Inglis, Captain Godman, Captain Halford, Lieutenant Burnand and Quartermaster Bewley. The soldiers stand in a loose semicircle with one man sitting on the ground to the right. All are wearing military uniform. Behind them is a hillside and a row of tents to the right.
The 5th Dragoon Guards served during the Crimean War and fought in the Battle of Balaklava.
