Maison Verte, Sevastopol

Photograph of Maison Verte, a girl's boarding school in Sevastopol. The building is in the gothic style with a gable roof. At the front there is a small porch with a boarded up window above it. A man stands in the porch and there is a ladder resting against the wall beside it to the right. The building is surrounded by railings and four soldiers in military uniform are gathered at the corner. After an eleven month siege the city of Sevastopol was captured by the allied British, French and Turkish forces on the 8th September 1855. The city had been bombarded heavily during the siege and many of the grandest buildings were badly damaged.
