Photograph of Lieutenant-General Burgoyne (1782-1871) and his aide-de-camp Lieutenant Stopford. Lieutenant-General Burgoyne is sitting to the left facing partly right. He is holding a sword in his left hand, which is resting between his legs, and a piece of paper in his right. Lieutenant Stopford stands facing him to the right with his hands resting on a sword. Both are wearing military uniform. They are standing on a patterned carpet and there is a plain wall behind them.
Lieutenant-General Burgoyne was the Inspector-General of Fortifications during the Crimean War. He later became the Commander of the Tower of London.
