1855-1856

Salted paper print | 23.2 x 28.1 cm (image) (image) | RCIN 2500742

Photograph of Kadikoi. The photograph shows a valley with a railway track and a road running through it. Between the track and the road there is a small settlement, and there is a larger settlement consisting of wooden huts and tents on the hillside to the right. The ruins of the old Genoese Castle at Balaklava can be seen on a hilltop in the distance. The Battle of Balaklava was fought in the countryside around the small village of Kadikoi, just north of Balaklava.
