Another man lies on the ground to the left next to a stone wall. They are wearing winter dress including fur coats and hats in preparation for fighting in the trenches. A hillside can be seen behind.
The 47th Regiment served in many of the major battles of the Crimean War including the Siege of Sevastopol.
