Photograph of General Scarlett (1799-1871) mounted on a horse facing left with Colonel Alexander Low (1817-1904, Captain at the time) standing in front of him. General Scarlett is wearing military uniform and Colonel Low wears a French jacket as not on duty. A row of tents can be seen behind them.

General Scarlett was celebrated for his actions during the Battle of Balaclava and later commanded the British cavalry in the Crimea.
