Photograph of General Estcourt (1802-1855) with Major De Morel, Captain Thompson, Lieutenant-Colonel Blane (1809-1871), Major Kirkland and Lieutenant-Colonel Pakenham (1819-1887), all members of his staff. General Estcourt stands at the centre of the group facing left with his right foot resting on a step. Three men are gathered to the left and two stand to the right. They are all wearing military uniform and carry swords. There is a building with open doors and windows behind, and an unknown man stands by a tree to the right. General Estcourt was a chief staff officer during the Crimean War and died of cholera in the Crimea. He was a close friend of Lord Raglan, the commander of the British troops during the Crimean War.
