Photograph of an encampment of the 71st Regiment at Balaklava Commissariat camp. In the foreground there are tents and wooden huts grouped together at the bottom of a hill, with soldiers standing around them in small groups. The encampment extends into the valley with large hills behind.
The troops engaged in the Siege of Sevastopol camped in the surrounding countryside, with ammunition and supplies brought to them from Balaklava by a purpose built railway track.
