He is wearing military uniform and holds a sword in his left hand and a pair of gloves and a small book in his right. This photograph, printed by Jabez Hughes in 1883, is a carbon print pasted over the original photograph.

Colonel Vico was a French soldier who was attached to the British Headquarters during the Crimean War.
