Photograph of Colonel Hallewell (1822-1869) seated on a rock looking up at Major Pearson (1831-1890) who stands beside him to the right. Major Pearson has his hands in his pockets and a pipe in his mouth. There is a cap and a water bottle on the ground to the left of Colonel Hallewell and there is a tent behind them.
Major Hallewell served as Assistant-Quarter-Master-General during the Crimean War and remained in contact with Roger Fenton after they returned from the Crimea. Major Pearson served with the Grenadier Guards during the Crimean War and later held a senior position with the London Metropolitan Police.
