Photograph of Colonel Shewell mounted on a horse facing left. He is wearing military uniform and has a sword attached to his belt. A campsite can be seen behind him to the right. This photograph, printed by Jabez Hughes in 1883, is a carbon print pasted over the original photograph.

During the Crimean War Colonel Shewell commanded the 8th Hussars.
