Photograph of Captain Goodlake standing to the right of a horse. He is holding the reigns in his right hand and has a sword attached to his belt. Wooden buildings can be seen behind.

Captain Goodlake served during the Crimean War with the Coldstream Guards and was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions at the Battle of Inkerman.

The caption on the mount below the photograph is in a 19th century hand, reading 'Capt Goodlake Gds'. The same photograph in the Library of Congress collection is identified as Major Chapman.
