1855

Albumen print | 25.5 x 35.9 cm (image) | RCIN 2500513

Photograph of the camp of the 5th Dragoon Guards, looking towards Kadikoi. In the foreground there is a small camp with a number of tents and wooden huts. Soldiers and horses move around the camp, some blurred through movement. The campsite extends into the valley behind and there are hills in the distance. The Battle of Balaklava was fought in the countryside around the small village of Kadikoi, just north of Balaklava. Troops engaged in the battle camped in the surrounding countryside.
