Albumen print | 6.3 x 8.7 cm (image) (image) | RCIN 2500522

Photograph taken on the Plateau of Sevastopol showing the camp of the 3rd Division. In the foreground there are several small groups of men, carrying two stretchers between them. Behind are the tents and wooden huts of a large military camp. Tents of the French camp can be seen on the hills in the distance. This is one of a series of eleven photographs which create a panoramic picture of the Plateau of Sevastopol. The Siege of Sevastopol was a major component of the Crimean War, lasting from October 1854 to September 1855. The troops engaged in the siege camped in the countryside surrounding the town.
