Photograph of Brigadier-General Van Straubenzee (1812-1892) and a group of Officers from The Buffs. Van Straubenzee is seated on a rock on the ground in the middle of the group facing partly left. Four men stand behind him and another sits on a metal chair to the left. One holds a bugle and several carry swords. There is an area of open land behind them. Brigadier-General Van Straubenzee served with the 3rd (East Kent) Regiment of Foot, also known as The Buffs, during the Crimean War and later became the Governor of Malta.
