Photograph of John Brown (1836-83), on the left, standing, holding the bridle of horse on which Princess Alice, later Grand Duchess of Hesse and by Rhine (1843-78) sits side-saddle. Prince Arthur, later Duke of Connaught (1850-1942) stands beside the horse, wearing Highland dress. There is a building and trees in the background.
