Photograph of a full length portrait of Princess Alice, later Grand Duchess of Hesse and by Rhine (1843-78) seated on a chair, facing three-quarters to the right. She turns her head towards the camera and looks downwards, to the left. She holds her hands together on her lap. She poses beside a dressing table with a mirror, and part of her head is reflected in the mirror. Behind her is a small table on which sits a basket and there is a footstool in front of her.
