Photograph of a full length portrait of Princess Alice, later Grand Duchess of Hesse and by Rhine (1843-78) seated on a chair, facing halfway to the right. She turns her head towards the camera and looks downwards, to the left. She places her right hand in her lap and places her left hand to her face. She poses beside a dressing table with a mirror, and part of her head is reflected in the mirror. Behind her is a small table on which sits a basket and there is a footstool in front of her.
