Hand-coloured photograph | 25.5 x 20.5 cm (image) | RCIN 2374619

Oval hand-coloured photograph of a head and shoulder length portrait of Prince Arthur, later Duke of Connaught (1850-1942), as a young boy. He is depicted leaning on a striped cushion, resting on a balustrade. The photograph recalls Raphael's Sistine Madonna (1512) and Oscar Rejlander's appropriation of the painting, held in the Royal Collection (1857, RCIN 2906215).

The photograph was originally in an oval frame and was displayed with another photograph (RCIN 2374620) in Prince Albert's Dressing Room, Osborne House.
