Hand coloured photograph of actress Mrs Charles Kean (previously Ellen Tree) as Hermione, representing the Statue in The Winter's Tale. She appeared in this role alongside her husband during the production staged at the Princess's Theatre, Oxford Street. She wears a white 'peplos' and a tiara and stands on red square plinth.
Queen Victoria watched the production four times at the Princess's Theatre and commissioned a series of photographs of the actors that were taken in Joseph Cundall's studio in May 1856.
