    Photograph of a full length portrait of portrait of John Copley, Lord Lyndhurst (1772-1863), seated, facing right, captured in profile. He holds a walking stick in his left hand. On the right side of the photograph is a table, on which sit three books. Details on the photograph have been over painted.

    John Singleton Copley, the first Baron Lyndhurst was the son of the painter John Singleton Copley. He was born in Boston, US, was educated in England, and became a lawyer. He was the Lord Chancellor three times; upon the first occasion in 1827 he received his peerage.
