Charlotte Florentia, Duchess of Northumberland (1787-1866)

1875 after an original of c.1864

Carbon print | 9.5 x 6.2 cm (image) | RCIN 2911476

Photograph of a full length portrait of Charlotte Florentia, Dowager Duchess of Northumberland, seated on a chair, facing towards the camera. She looks to the left and raises her right hand above a dog. The dog faces towards the Duchess and sits on his back legs, as if begging. A copy, in carbon, after a carte-de-visite probably taken by J. de Mouxy in 1864 (see National Archives, COPY 1/6/196 for the form by de Mouxy registering copyright for the photograph).
