Photograph of a full length portrait of Carl Ruland (1834-1907), standing, facing slightly towards the left. He turns his head and looks towards the camera. He poses beside a chair and holds a book, positioned on top of a table, in his right hand.  

Ruland was an art and literary historian. He was Private secretary to Prince Albert and assisted with the Raphael Project.
