Coloured over a photograph of a head and shoulder length portrait of Prince Albert (1819-61). The photograph is set in an ivory frame with gilt-metal border. The border is engraved with the inscription 'DEAR PAPA / DECEMBER. 14. 1861'.

The photograph is by John Edwin Mayall (RCIN 2105692), and shows similarities to Bryan Edward Duppa's portrait (RCIN 2906522).
