1857Albumen print | 20.6 x 23.6 cm (image) | RCIN 2081462
Photograph of the painting 'The Rivals' by Charles Robert Leslie (1794-1859). The painting depicts a woman standing with three men. The older man on the left uses a cane and, with much effort, bends down to pick up a fan. The woman, at the centre of the composition, appears to ignore the advances of a man standing on the right. The painting is photographed in its frame and an identification number, '175', can be seen in the lower left corner.
