AFTER A WORK PREVIOUSLY ATTRIBUTED TO FILIPPINO LIPPI (C. 1457-1504)

'The Virgin and Child'

1857

Albumen print | 16.1 x 13.0 cm (image) | RCIN 2081415

Photograph of a painting of the Virgin Mary and Christ Child. The Christ Child is seated on his mother's lap, and looks towards the viewer. He places his right hand on his mother's chest and his left hand on her left hand.

At the time of the photograph, the painting was in the collection of Beriah Botfield (1807-63) and was attributed to Filippino Lippi (1457-1504). The painting, however, does not appear to have been created by Lippi.
