Albumen print | 35.6 x 21.1 cm (image) | RCIN 2081529
Photograph of a painting of a portrait of the actress Helena Faucit (1814-98) by Sir Frederick William Burton (1816-1900). The painting depicts Faucit full length, standing, facing the camera. She turns her head three-quarters to the right and gazes ahead. She places her right hand on a stand beside her. Faucit wears a full length, classical-inspired gown and carries a laurel crown in her left hand.
At the time of the photograph, the painting was in the collection of Sir Theodore Martin (1816-1909), who was married to Faucit. Martin bequeathed the painting to the National Galleries Scotland, where it is currently held.
