'Drawing for the Militia'

Photograph of the painting 'Drawing for the Militia' by John Philips (1817-67). The painting depicts a busy scene inside an interior. Groups of men have answered a call to join a militia, and are shown signing up and being measured.
At the time of the photograph, the painting was in the collection of Thomas Wrigley. The painting is now held by the Bury Art Museum, outside Manchester.
