Photograph of a painting by Raphael (1483-1520) depicting the Virgin May holding the dead Christ on her lap. Saint John stands beside the Virgin May, helping to support the body. Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus stand either side of the central group. On the far right, Mary Magdalene kneels to kiss Christ's foot. The painting was originally part of an altarpiece.

At the time of the photograph the painting was in the collection of a Mrs H D Dawson. The work is now held by the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston.
