'Portrait of his first wife'; Portrait of a woman

Photograph of a painting of a half-length portrait of woman, facing three-quarters to the left. She turns her head slightly towards the front and looks towards the viewer. She wears an elaborate lace collar.
The painting is attributed to Sir Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) and was once thought to be a portrait of his first wife, Isabella Brant (1591-1626). The painting (RCIN 400118) was lent to the 1857 Manchester Exhibition by Queen Victoria (1819-1901), and remains in the Royal Collection. The work is currently on display at Hampton Court.
