Shirt stud with photograph of Princess Alice

9 - 9 Nov 1854

Metal shirt stud containing photograph | 1.4 x 1.4 x 0.6 cm (whole object) | RCIN 14826.3

A shirt stud containing a photograph of Princess Alice. The stud is inscribed on the reverse: Alice / Nov 9 / 1854.

One of a set of three shirt studs mounted with photographs. It is likely the studs were given to Albert Edward, Prince of Wales as a birthday present. Queen Victoria records in her journal, 9 November 1854, 'Albert fetched Bertie from downstairs & then we took him to the Breakfast Room, where his presents were all spread out, with which he was particularly pleased'.
