Photograph of John Brown (1826-83) standing and facing the viewer whilst holding the reigns to a white pony called 'Malakoff'. On the right stands John Smith (fl. c. 1857) who also stands, in left side profile, as he holds the reigns to the Prince Consort's pony. Both men wear tartan kilts and sporrans. Photographed in a forest setting on scrub ground in the foreground and trees in the background.
