HENRY J WHITLOCK (1835-1918)

The Queen, Princess Helena and Princess Beatrice in a carriage

1867-68

Albumen print | 26.3 x 34.4 cm (page dimensions) | RCIN 2160418

Photograph of Queen Victoria, Princess Helena (1846-1923) and Princess Beatrice (1857-1944) seated in an open carriage with John Brown (1826-83) and Mr Bourner (1821-95) on the box. The carriage is pulled by two dapple grey horses; taken outside Balmoral Castle.

The photograph was credited to Lockwood but was actually taken by Henry J Whitlock of Birmingham. The woman sitting on the left next to her sister Princess Beatrice is in fact Princess Helena, not Princess Louise as captioned.
