c. 1865Albumen print | 9.2 x 5.5 cm (image) | RCIN 2160371
Photograph of Mrs Middleton, wife of William, seated in a padded chair and facing three-quarters to the left. She wears a hat with a veil and a black and white checked shawl.
This is probably a portrait of William Middleton's wife who was employed as an upholsterer in Queen Victoria's Household at Balmoral Castle. In 1882, The Queen 'walked out' from Balmoral Castle and visited the Middleton's in order to give them a gift to mark their Golden Wedding anniversary.
