Photograph from an album of Margaret Stewart (1833-1902), wife of Donald Stewart, Head Forester at Balmoral, seated on a grassy bank and holding the infant Albert (1860-89). Seated alongside her mother and facing the viewer is Mary Stewart. Standing in the centre of the background is Elizabeth or 'Lizzie' Stewart (1859-1904) with her hand on her brother Charles' (c. 1856-76) shoulder. Photographed on the Balmoral estate.   

Margaret Stewart went on to have a fifth child, Helena, in 1864. Donald Stewart was Forester on the Balmoral estate and was Head Forester for 26 years.
